BILLBOARD News about people, products, places & plans Cleveland Engineering Society Honors Top Projects he Cleveland Engineering Society recently presented its Awards of Excellence in Design and Construction at its 65th Annual Design & Construction Conference and Trade Show, held at LaCentre in Westlake. The Award of Excellence is a premier recognition honoring the three primary members of a building team – owners, designers and constructors – and recognizes outstanding team achievement and inno-vative use of technology. The award was The CIA George Gund Building team included (from left) Ivan Nemecek (Stantec), Al Zyosec (CIA CFO), conceived over 50 years ago to encourage Grafton Nunes (Cleveland Institute of Art) and Mike elevation of the standards of practice in the Carter (Stantec) architectural, engineering and construc-tion professions. In total, 17 projects were chosen within six categories. Hilton Cleveland Downtown and Cleveland Institute of Art’s George Gund Building both received top honor in the Large Project ($20 million+) category. Additional winners included Ralph Perkins II Wildlife & Woods Gardens (New Construction -Small Project), The Drury Plaza Hotel Renovation (Large Project), The Ohio Theatre Foundation Lobby Re-Creation (Small Project), Ben Gogolick Giraffe Encounter, Rosebrough Tiger Passage and Stillwater Place at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo (Special Project), and Eastbound Structure of the George V. Voinovich Bridge (Infrastructure). T Bob Brown Former Cleveland Planning Director Joins Calfee Former City of Cleveland Director of City Planning Bob Brown, FAICP, recently joined the Calfee Zoning Network, a national network of independent planning and zoning innovators. Brown has 39 years of experience as a city planner, includ-ing 10 years as director of city planning for the City of Cleveland. He has written and administered innova-tive zoning and development regulations on a wide range of topics, from signs to design districts and from urban agri-culture to townhouses. In 2014, Brown was honored nationally by the American Planning Association (APA), when it selected him as a Fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners (FAICP), recognizing his accomplish-ments and expertise in the field of city planning.
