Akron School for the Arts A highlight of the complex is the dedicated Akron School for the Arts, which is contained within a wing on the first floor of the Firestone CLC. “The Akron School for the Arts has become more specialized over the years with award-winning music, theater and dance programs,” Herr says. “It attracts students from throughout the district with a serious interest in arts instruc-tion. The new facilities are exceptional with very sophisticated performance and learning spaces, and amenities that the programs never had before.” The school’s showpiece is a 714-seat, gallery-style theater with sophisticated sound and lighting systems and a 50-foot-high ceiling. “It’s a very intimate venue that’s designed with a goal to bring the audi-ence as close to the stage as possible, and to allow performers to actually come out into the audience at times,” Peterson says.
