Hospitable Healthcare Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital delivers modern care, offers patients self-service options By Doug Bardwell | Photos by Kevin Reeves elf-service’ and ‘hospital’ are generally not used in the same sentence, but such is the situation for the just-opened Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital. Located at 33300 Cleveland Clinic Blvd., this is a 212,000-square-foot, five-story building adjacent to the existing Richard E. Jacobs Health Center. The new hospital is challenging many past practices to deliver the “right care in the right place at the right time,” per Rebecca Starck, MD, president of the hospital. ‘S Located just north of the existing health center, the new $161 million hospital will provide 114 medical/surgical beds and 12 ICU beds. Connected to the previous emergency department opened in 2012, the addition provides for two additional operating rooms, a cardiac catheteriza-tion lab and a pharmacy, as well as an expanded radiology department. “For the first time, patients in Lorain County and further west will have 40 access to a full-service Cleveland Clinic hospital close to home,” Starck says. “As the first hospital connected directly to one of our family health centers, Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital will help us build on the exceptional care we already provide on our campus, now offering patients the full range of care they need.” The existing health center, built in 2011, sees an average of 42,000 patient visits every month and handles 2,400 emergency room visits each month as well. The new hospital will offer care in more than a dozen specialties, including cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, general surgery, ortho-pedics, pulmonology, urology, gynecology, hospital medicine, vascular medicine and vascular surgery.
